Coastal battery (Küstenbatterie)

A coastal battery is a concentration of guns that are designed to target ships. The heaviest coastal battery in the Netherlands was stationed in the Festung Hoek van Holland; Marine-Küsten-Batterie
Rozenburg (naval coastal battery ‘Rozenburg’)(XV) was stationed south of the estuary. To the north of the estuary were batteries Vineta (III) and Monster (VI).

Vineta was built into the former Dutch coastal battery V (Roman numeral). It was outfitted with four type SKC/28 15 cm guns, stationed in type 671 bunkers. Three of these bunkers were attached to the original Dutch bunkers. Turret guns which also had a calibre of 15 cm, had been mounted on these bunkers before the war.
