Coastal battery (Küstenbatterie)
A coastal battery is a concentration of guns that are designed to target ships. The heaviest coastal battery in the Netherlands was stationed in the Festung Hoek van Holland; Marine-Küsten-Batterie
Rozenburg (naval coastal battery ‘Rozenburg’)(XV) was stationed south of the estuary. To the north of the estuary were batteries Vineta (III) and Monster (VI). |
Vineta was built into the former Dutch coastal battery V (Roman numeral). It was outfitted with four type SKC/28 15 cm guns, stationed in type 671 bunkers. Three of these bunkers were attached to the original Dutch bunkers. Turret guns which also had a calibre of 15 cm, had been mounted on these bunkers before the war.
